Cake
- 2 sticks butter (or 1 butter & 1 quality oleo)
- 1/4 cup cocoa
- 1 cup water
- 2 cups sifted flour
- 2 cups sugar
- dash salt
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 cup sour cream
- 2 eggs, slightly beaten (XL)
- 1 teaspoon vanilla (pure)
Icing
- 1 stick butter
- 1/4 cup coca
- 6 tablespoons milk
- 1 box powdered sugar (sift if lumpy)
- 1 cup chopped walnuts (not fine)
- 1 teaspoon pure vanilla
- To prepare cake:
- Melt butter in a large pan
- Add: cocoa and water. Heat to boiling. Remove from heat.
- Sift together and add to pan ingredients: shifted flour, sugar, salt, baking soda.
- Mix but don't beat ingredients: sour cream, eggs, and vanilla.
- Bake 20 minutes in a 10x 15x1 inch greased pan.
- Remove from oven and ice immediately.
- To Prepare Icing:
- Prepare while cake is baking and ice cake immediately (carefully with metal spatual is best).
- Melt butter in pan and add cocoa, milk, and stir (low fire) until slightly thick and remove from fire.
- Mix in: powdered sugar (sift if lumpy), chopped walnuts, and vanilla.
- Cut into squares when cool
